Speaking With Someone Who Is Hurting
Updated: Jul 29, 2019
We can only imagine the unbridled depths of another person's suffering. We can only imagine the unbridled depths of their despair. We can only hope that being with them and sharing the burden can be enough to make a difference in this moment and the next.
At times, all you can say is: "I don't know exactly what you are going through right now, but I know how I feel as I am with you. You're not alone. I'm here with you. What can I do to support you?"
Moving from empathy to action can open a space for dialogue and take you in a direction that works.
